    Get the Latest on Federal & State Zero Food Waste Legislation (June 12 - 1PM)

    Zero Food Waste Coalition is a national effort to inform and influence U.S. food waste policy at the federal, state, and local levels with the goal of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030. Members include the Harvard Food Law & Policy Clinic, National Resources Defense Council, World Wildlife Fund, ReFED and many state and local organizations working on these issues.

    Fostering Sustainable Behavior Workshop (June 10-12)

    Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr, the founder of community-based social marketing, will provide his Fostering Sustainable Behavior virtual workshop from June 10th to 12th. This workshop is essential training for anyone who delivers programs to promote sustainable behaviors, such as waste reduction, water and energy efficiency, modal transportation shifts, electrification, and conservation. Over 75,000 have attended his workshops, and community-based social marketing has become the global standard for delivering environmental behavior change programs. This workshop is held over Zoom and consists of three four-hour sessions over three consecutive days. These sessions are held at a convenient time for attendees across North America and are very highly rated, without the cost, inconvenience, or emissions associated with in-person training. Participants receive a copy of the new fourth edition of his book and a certificate confirming completion of the community-based social marketing training.     RECYCLING UPDATE: MARCH 25: NORTHERN CA RECYCLING ASSOCIATION

    SWANA Gold Rush Chapter members joined industry leaders at the 30th Annual Recycling Update (RU), hosted by the Northern California Recycling Association on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, online and at San Francisco State University’s McKenna Theatre. The program featured 20+ expert speakers presenting concise, insight-driven sessions on waste reduction, repair, recycling, composting, and product stewardship. 

    Three-Stop Rural Solid Waste Program Tour

    December 5, 2025

    SWANA GRC hosted an exciting three-stop tour showcasing one of the region’s most exemplary rural integrated solid waste programs! We explored the unique challenges, creative solutions, and real-world opportunities that shape rural solid waste programs.

    • Behind-the-scenes tour of Cal-Waste’s MRF in Galt
    • Calaveras County’s full-service convenience center in Avery, operated by Gambi Disposal.
    • The Rock Creek Landfill and HHW Facility in Milton, where you’ll see rural waste operations in action.

    July 15-17, 2025 

    The Gold Rush Chapter hosted a successful MOLO certification event in Lodi July 15-17. Thirty-three solid waste professionals participated. Manager of Landfill Operations is SWANA's flagship certification course.  

    Thanks to longtime SWANA members James Moore and John Costa for instructing and to San Joaquin County for hosting the facility tour component of the class.
